World Humanitarian Day 2026: Strengthening Solidarity and Inclusion for Vulnerable People

At JESUIS, we place people and their dignity at the heart of our actions by promoting solidarity, social inclusion, and community well-being.

On the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, celebrated on 19 August 2026 under the theme “Act for Humanity,” the JESUIS Association visited the National Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Cardinal Paul-Émile LÉGER (CNRPH) in Yaoundé as part of an initiative focused on solidarity, inclusion, and the well-being of vulnerable people.

A Warm Welcome at CNRPH

Upon arrival, the JESUIS team was warmly welcomed by the Technical Adviser, representing the Director General of CNRPH, and the Head of the Social Affairs Department. This initial exchange provided an opportunity to present the objectives of the initiative and highlight the importance of strengthening collaboration between organizations working closely with local communities and institutions that work daily to support vulnerable people.

A Visit to Patients

The JESUIS team then visited the hospital wards to meet directly with patients, taking time to listen to their experiences, engage in conversation and build meaningful personal connections with people receiving care at the centre.

Mr. Ezekiel Etoundi Etoundi, a physical education instructor invited by JESUIS, also took part in the visit by providing educational guidance, compassionate support, and encouragement to persons with disabilities.Through practical advice and encouragement, he sought to strengthen patients’ confidence, help them recognize their abilities, and encourage their participation in activities suited to their individual capacities.

He also emphasized the importance of social interaction, mutual support and meaningful human connections in promoting well-being and a sense of belonging..

As he stated: “Persons with disabilities need not only equipment, but also support, listening, rehabilitation, psychosocial assistance and opportunities that promote their autonomy and inclusion.”

An Exchange with Staff and Beneficiaries

The visit continued in the conference room, where JESUIS brought together CNRPH administrative staff and beneficiaries to discuss the rehabilitation journey of persons with disabilities. Beneficiaries shared their experiences and support needs, while staff offered perspectives on the care and assistance provided at the centre. The exchange highlighted the importance of listening to persons with disabilities and strengthening collaboration among service providers, families and community organizations to support rehabilitation and social inclusion.

This initiative contributes to advancing Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), while fostering more inclusive, supportive, and resilient communities.
